The Project
Founded over 45 years ago to provide services not available at that time, the Watts Labor Community Action Committee is still developing programs and services that address the complex needs of South Los Angeles. Through a network of partnerships they provide comprehensive social services to over 30,000 residents a year, an invaluable connection for some of the areas most impoverished. The staff sees their mission as a spiritual calling, one they accept with joy and love, creating not just a place for valuable resources, but one where every resident can experience the thrill of living fully. With renovations, they will expand their multimedia workshop, build a kitchen classroom and create a culinary arts curriculum for residents to explore their talents and develop new, marketable real world skills.
"There's a spiritual level of hope here that never goes away. Positivity and optimism live here." –Phyllis P. Willis, Director of Senior Services
