We’ve brought together leading voices representing expertise from key health and wellness disciplines. These include experts in obesity, physical activity, public health, human behavior, nutrient fortification and lifestyle education.
The council meets on a regular basis throughout the year and provides advice to Kraft outside of meetings as needed.
Advisory Council Members
- David Allison, PhD, Professor of Biostatistics, Head of the Section on Statistical Genetics and Director of the Clinical Nutrition Center, University of Alabama at Birmingham. His research interests include obesity and quantitative genetics.
- Arne Astrup, MD, DrMedSci, Head of The Department of Human Nutrition at The Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Copenhagen, Denmark. His research interests include physiology and pathophysiology of energy and substrate metabolism, with a special emphasis on the etiology and treatment of obesity.
- Leann Birch, PhD, Distinguished Professor of Human Development and Nutritional Sciences and Director of the Center for Childhood Obesity Research, The Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA. Her research interests include how children’s eating habits are formed, eating disorders, and risk and protective factors for childhood obesity.
- Albert Flynn, PhD, Professor in Nutritional Sciences, University College, Cork, Republic of Ireland. His research interests include the role of diet, and its interaction with genetics, on bone health; population studies on the influence of diet and lifestyle on health in children and adults; and risk-benefit assessment of nutrients.
- Jeanne Goldberg, PhD, RD, Professor of Nutrition, is Founding Director of the Graduate Program in Nutrition Communication at the Gerald J. and Dorothy R. Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University. She is currently Principal Investigator on an NIH-funded communication project to improve the quality and eco-friendliness of foods brought from home to school by elementary school children.
- Anura Kurpad, MD, PhD, FAMS, Professor of Physiology and Nutrition, St. John’s Medical College, and Dean, St. John’s Research Institute, Bangalore, India. His primary research interests are in the field of energy and protein metabolism.
- Mike Lefevre, PhD, Utah Science, Technology and Research Professor in the Center of Advanced Nutrition at Utah State University. Examples of his current research program include examining the effects of phytochemical dietary components on health and defining the impact of dietary constituents on risk factors for coronary artery disease.
- Russell Pate, PhD, Professor, Department of Exercise Science and Associate Dean for Research, School of Public Health, University of South Carolina, Columbia, SC. His research interests include physical activity and physical fitness in children and the health implications of physical activity.
